City School Reviews

The school is a very small public school of choice in Michigan. The primary focus of the program is the development of each child to reach individual excellence. The program is structured to help each child learn how to really think for themselves, and help them develop a social awareness to hep others. In the upper 3-4-5, there is an emphasis on inventions, math, science,to help them see how they can help create solutions for today's problems and that they are fully capable of being the ones to do it.. Parental involvement is a critical piece of the program. Outside field trips occur weekly to museums, soup kitchens, local businesses, etc. Each child that leaves this school has a belief that they can succeed and will help others. My daughter graduated from the program last year and I am so grateful that she had the opportunity to experience this incredible program.

I love this school because of the family atmosphere and the fact that if any of my children needed help from an adult they each have over 40 examples at school everyday from the secretaries to each parent of each child in their respective classrooms that they could turn to to get that help. The school focus on the indvidual needs of each student not the group as a whole. It is very comforting to leave my children daily in such a wonderful group of people.

Such an amazing multi-age school. It truly is like a family that offers many hands on opportunities.

CIty School is the best school. Standards of education should compare to this school. The teachers care about their students and use many different methods to help them learn. The City School students go on many different field trips designed to teach them while they are learning. For example, they learned about history by going to the Detroit Science Center to see the Titanic Exhibit. The students spent the day learning about the Titanic and finding out if the passenger they were given at the beginning of the exhibit survived. Every year the students go to a one room schoolhouse from the 18th century and experience school in one room. They have to dress like the students and bring their lunch as the students would have. This school is such an experience and academically the students are far ahead of their fellow 6th graders when they matriculate to Middle School.

City School is the best Elementary school in Grand Blanc,Mihigan eventhough it is the oldest, smallest, poorest school.People who is familiar with City School would never glance twice at the school as they pass by it because it does not look very appealing and in need of major renovation. However, the kids and their parents did not mind of walking down the old worned hall way daily, the tiny restrooms, nor the donated couches, tables and furnitures in Mrs. Weiss 's classroom (our beloved Fourth /Fifth grade teacher). Here at City School, the teachers and school officials are truly dedicated and devoted to their students and professions! They always push their students to be the best and challenge them with numerous educational programs, contests, activities, field trips that are hands on.They have also involved the students with our community by volunteering at The Soup Kitchen,The Food Bank, working at Evatt's Farms... Last year our Third,Fourth and Fifth graders also participated in The American/French exchange program organized by our teacher Mrs.Weiss ,hosted 15 French students from France for 2 weeks. It was a wonderful and rewarding experience for our students made possible by our school Director, our teachers and our parents. This is some of the few extraordinary programs that City School offered to our students and we truly believe the our school are one of the school in nation!

City School in Grand Blanc, is the BEST multi-age, hands-on program I've ever seen. The students here get so many unique experiences they wouldn't get in a traditional public setting. My son spent five years here and there are so many things he will carry with him throughout his life! My daughter is just beginning, but loves it, too!

City School is different than the other elementary schools in the area in a lot of different ways. First, it's size - there are only about 100 students in the entire school. Second, the classrooms are multi-age/grade. So you have 1st & 2nd graders together, 3rd & 4th graders together and 4th & 5th graders together. Third, the school encourages learning in lots of different ways. One of the ways the kids learn is through many unique field trips taken throughout the school year. (My daughter probably went on 30+ field trips last year as a 1st grader.) Finally, the school succeeds because of it's amazing parent involvement. Each time the kids take a field trip there are no buses, it is the parent volunteers who drive the kids and act as chaperones. There are other events throughout the year which only happen thanks to the parents who volunteer. It is an amazing school and I'm so glad we found it! I can't imagine my daughter getting the kind of education she is at any other school.

City School is the school to send your child if you want great academics taught in a positive learning environment. My son's indivuality is valued at City School. The positive discipline works well to keep him on track. Being an only child, the muti age classrooms are a great experience for him to teach as well as be taught by other students, just as he would if he did have siblings. His understanding and retention of math concepts has gone way up since doing Singapore Math. The field trips just inspire him to go to school even more, and reinforce things that he is learning in school. Geography Night is also really a special school wide function, fun and educational. The location of the school, allows the children to walk to the library and the town hall. The parent support is awesome!

GB City School provides children to learn at their own pace and excel when they are capable. Their learning is reinforced as they act as mentors for younger students in the multi-age classroom.
